The Commission Process

Initial Conversation/Pre-planning

During the first conversation, the client and Jennifer will discuss your vision for the portrait, desired size of the finished work, budget and timing.

Jennifer can work from photos, ideally high resolution professional photographs. Clients will typically provide a variety of reference photos of their horse and Jennifer will discuss options on how best to structure the painting based on their wishes and available reference material. She will also provide a price quote at this time. Note: Prices begin at $1,499 for commissioned works.

Draft Review/Authorization

After the initial pre-planning discussion, if the commission will require a new composition (versus utilizing a specific reference photograph), Jennifer will create a draft of the work for your review and authorization. A 50% deposit is required at this time.

The painting can take between 4 and 8 weeks to complete, depending on the size and complexity of the project. An additional 2 weeks is required for drying time. Once the painting is dry to the touch, Jennifer will arrange delivery of the piece. For Minnesota-based clients, delivery can be made in person to avoid costly shipping fees of fine art. Final payment is required prior to delivery of the painting.
